Reviews & Scores
Here the nose is more expressive than it usually is at this point in its evolution with an unusually perfumed and highly spiced collection of dark currant, plum, violet, earth and sandalwood scents. The sleek, cool and again relatively elegant big-bodied flavors possess strikingly good mid-palate concentration before delivering flat out superb complexity on the muscular but balanced and hugely long finish. This terrific effort is a definite 'wow' wine and built to enjoy an extremely long life.

Bright, dark ruby-red. Pure, brooding aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, violet and licorice. Suave and fine-grained but tightly wound in the early going, with the violet element lifting the intense purple fruit and licorice flavors. Not particularly expressive today: a distinctly tannic, structured style of 2014, from a crop level of just 30 hectoliters per hectare. As is his usual practice, Roumier vinified his fruit from red and lighter soil separately but in 2014 he combined the two cuvées when the wines went in to barrel.

The great nose soars from the glass in a very vibrant blend of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, incipient gamebird, violets, mustard seed, a magically complex base of soil and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and rock solid at the core, with that inimitable combination of sappy fruit and stunning transparency. The finish is very, very long, ripely tannic and seamless, with stunning latent energy and magical potential.

Very sumptuous and serious. Lots of rich smooth fruit with lots of red plummy fruit. Very crisp and precise. Lots of layers and interest here. Very long.

The 2014 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a fragrant, floral bouquet with touches of blueberry, violet, wet limestone and effervescent blood orange. There is simply wonderful delineation here. The palate is very well structured, linear and strict in accordance with the vintage, driving acidity here maintaining the freshness with superb minerality on the finish. Oh yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. - WA
