Reviews & Scores
Bright medium yellow color; deeper than the '14. Pure and mineral-driven on the nose but much less expressive today than the 2014, hinting at lemon, grapefruit and various shades of stone. Offers more weight on entry than the 2014, then quite penetrating and very dry in the middle palate, dominated by lemony citricity and powdered stone. This brilliant calcaire wine finishes dusty, tactile and firm, with a hint of youthful bitterness. Showing little easy sweetness or early appeal, this very dry, salty wine can't match the '14 for its impeccable early balance but it should age for a long time despite its average acidity. (ST) - VM

This is also very restrained, cool and ultra-pure with its reserved aromas of wet stone, lemon peel, white flowers and iodine that are framed by discreet wood hints. There is excellent power and punch to the intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors that do a slow build into an amazing crescendo on the bone dry and explosive finale. A classically styled and proportioned Les Clos. - BH

The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, which comes from 1.7 hectares of 50+-year-old vine, has a much subtler bouquet compared to Les Preuses with hints of yellow flowers and damp autumnal undergrowth. The palate is extremely well-balanced with a touch of dried apricot and peach skin on the entry before being usurped by gentle spicy notes that lead to the tense finish. This is a lovely Les Clos, although Les Preuses is more exciting this year. (NM) - WA

Again, the 2012 Dauvissat Les Clos offers up uncharacteristically early appeal- or at least, this is the impression it gives off today. There is no denying the superb complexity of the bouquet, which jumps from the glass in a mix of pear, tangerine, very complex, flinty minerality, a touch of smokiness, spring flowers and orange zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very elegant, with a sound core, good, but not great cut and grip and a very long, suave and complex finish. This is a lovely bottle, but without quite the grip and sizzle of the very best grand crus that I tasted on this trip to Chablis- though this could just be a passing phase where the gorgeous and very pure fruit simply has enveloped the overt structural elements for the time being! - JG
