The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets from Domaine Lamy-Caillat unfurls in the glass with a youthfully reticent bouquet of lime, pastry cream, pear, dried white flowers and stuck match, framed by light reduction. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and tight-knit at the core, with lovely purity, a bright line of acidity, chewy extract and a long, searingly chalky finish. This is one cellar where it's hard to choose between the 2015 and 2014 vintages, but while they're qualitatively similar, the 2014 is the more taut of the two and the year that will most demand cellaring to realize all its considerable potential. - WA
