This is also ultra-elegant but more complex with hints of spice and dried flowers adding depth to the very fresh red Pinot fruit and stone scents. The detailed and racy medium-bodied flavors possess plenty of underlying tension that imparts a real sense of focused energy to the mouth coating and beautifully well-delineated finish. A classic and very understated Caillerets. - BH

The 2010 Volnay Les Caillerets fleshes out beautifully in all directions. It is one of the most textured, deep and imposing wines in this lineup. Clean veins of minerality form the backbone for an expressive core of dark red cherries, flowers, mint and licorice. The combination of depth in the fruit and nuance is absolutely gorgeous. A long, persistent finish bodes very well for the future, but patience will be the key. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. (AG) - WA

The 2010 Caillerets from the Lafarge family is quite beautifully and classically proportioned, with a properly reserved personality and outstanding structural integrity. The deep and primary nose offers up a lovely mix of cherries, quince, blood orange, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, a beautifully complex, stony base of soil and a nice touch of coffee in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and very intensely flavored, with a transparent personality, a sappy core of fruit, tangy acids, laser-like focus and outstanding length and grip on the ripely tannic and bouncy finish. This will be dynamite in the fullness of time, but it will need a good decade in the cellar to start to stir. - JG
