“The 2021 les Chaffots chez Lignier is absolutely stellar this year. The beautiful bouquet jumps from the glass in a mix of plums, red and black cherries, venison, coffee, a complex base of soil tones, woodsmoke and a deft touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, deep and full-bodied, with a gorgeous core of fruit, lovely soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and very refined finish. Gorgeous juice. 2033-2085.”

The worst frosted, making 2.5 barrels instead of 8. Rich purple, with a fuller deep raspberry fruit, more tannins with a crunchy fresher red fruit finish. A little chunky and quite austere despite the roundness in the middle. Drink from 2027-2032. - JM

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru was acutely impacted by the frost so there are just 2.5 barrels. This has a more tertiary nose, hints of white pepper and clove, cohesive and quite focused. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, sorbet-like on the entry, quite vibrant with a touch of black pepper towards the finish. Very fine. - VM
