The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has a very old-school nose: shucked oyster shell and sea spray here, touches of petrichor. It's backward for now, but there is clearly a lot of intensity here. The palate is well-balanced with a killer line of acidity, linear and focused with a touch of lime and grapefruit towards the sustained finish. Superb. (NM) - VM

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is another impressive wine in a succession of hits for this premier cru chez Leflaive, where old vines on the cusp of being ripped up have been rehabilitated into more regular production. Opening in the glass with a reductive bouquet of ripe citrus fruit, iodine, dried white flowers and mint, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with lovely depth and texture to match the cut and tension of the vintage. - WA

Note: from a .7 ha holding of 35 to 40-year-old vines Here too subtle wood influence can be found on the exceptionally floral-suffused nose of essence of pear, spice and a variety of citrus elements. There is both good size and richness to the solidly concentrated middleweight flavors that display the hallmark refinement and lilting quality while deliver superb punch on the even longer, balanced and very classy finish. This stylish effort is pretty much textbook Combettes and should age like one as well. *Burghound Sweet Spot! Outstanding!* - BH

Pale lemon with a light green reflection. Gently reductive, which shows also in a toughening up of the finish. This should resolve with more time. But there is a gorgeous volume of fruit, with a little flesh and a latent power. Some tension here and impressive length, a very successful Combettes for Domaine Leflaive in 2021. - JM
