“Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet shows an extra degree of ripe fruit, and a little less the limestone freshness of Caillerets. This is more backward, with an additional intensity, significantly so. Grows across the palate, still fresh limestone to finish, but with an extra éclat. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: October 2023.”

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has a precise bouquet with crushed limestone and sea cave scents intermingling with orange pith and lemon zest. The palate is very well-balanced with impressive concentration, slightly honeyed on the mid-palate with a persistent finish. This represents a finely-tuned Chassagne-Montrachet with power in reserve. - VM
