The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is slightly leathery on the nose and this detracts from the brightness and delineation of the aromatics. Yet there is decent fruit here. The palate is vibrant and poised, with quite a heavy layer of oak yet it feels in proportion to the fruit. This is a Clos Vougeot that just requires time to cohere, however the constituent parts are in place. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. (Drink between 2024-2045) - VM

A very restrained, indeed almost mute nose slowly gives up its aromas of mostly red berries, earth and soft floral nuances though it does so with an attitude. There is a lovely sleekness to the supple and velvety broad-shouldered flavors that exhibit good power and drive on the firmly structured and overtly austere finale that offers excellent persistence. Patience required though, as this should age gracefully for years. (Drink starting 2038) - BH

Dense purple colour, there is a touch of reduction, rebalancing the soil but takes time, needs nitrogen assistance. Tight and tense behind, a strict Clos de Vougeot but as so often 2018 works well in this terroir. - JM
