Acker held its largest Asia auction of the year in Hong Kong on Friday June 7 and Saturday June 8, marking an upbeat close to the first half of the 2024 auction season in Asia. Conducted live from Hong Kong with live streams in Bangkok and Shanghai, the auction achieved a commanding HK $66 million / US $8.5 million and was highlighted by an extraordinary consignment direct from the cellars of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The sale saw a surge of bidder activity from all across Asia, including significant participation from mainland China and Thailand, along with Singapore, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Korea. In addition, core clients from both Europe and America were also quite active thanks to the quality of the auction, including one of the largest consignments the firm has ever offered, The Lifetime Collection of an Entertainment Executive, which totaled HK $37 Million and over half the total sale.
The Top Ten Lots in the sale were all from Burgundy, led by an entire barrel of 2022 Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges, which sold for a remarkable HK $2M (US $256,082). Henri Jayer secured the second and third positions, with six magnums of 2001 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux fetching HK $1.7M (US $217,670) and five magnums of 2000 Cros Parantoux achieving HK $1.3M (US $166,453). The fourth spot was awarded to Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with a Methuselah of 1989 Romanee Conti selling for HK $1.2M (US $153,649). Fifth place was a tie between twelve bottles of 2000 H. Jayer Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux and a twenty-bottle vertical of 2002-2021 Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee in OWCs, both selling for HK $1M (US $128,041). The sixth and seventh positions also went to Jayer, with twelve bottles of the 2001 and four magnums of 1997 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux selling for HK $950,000 (US $121,639) and HK $650,000 (US $83,227), respectively. Rounding out the Top Ten were two selections from Domaine de la Romanee Conti: a Methuselah of 1991 Montrachet, which brought in HK $550,000 (US $70,423), and three bottles of 2005 Romanee Conti in OWC, capturing HK $500,000 (US $64,020).
A spectacular collection of twenty-five lots direct from the cellars of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was a highlight of the auction, featuring the aforementioned barrel of 2022 Comte-Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges, only the third time such a lot has been offered, and an incredible complete vertical of Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee, with every vintage from 2002 to 2021. The sale provided an exclusive preview of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s 2022 vintage, marking Acker as the first company to offer wines from several new and significant vineyard acquisitions, including Grands Echezeaux, Vosne Romanee Aux Malconsorts, Aux Reas and La Croix Rameau. Magnums respectively sold for HK $75,000, $70,000, and $50,000 each (US $9,603, $8,963, and $6,402), all surpassing high estimates and all, of course, setting New World Records. Also setting New World Records amongst the mostly mixed lots for the day were six bottles of 2020 Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges selling for HK $30,000 (US $3,841), and magnums of 2017 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots and Vosne Romanee Les Petits Monts achieving HK $42,500 and $35,000 (US $5,442 and $4,481) respectively.
