The 2008 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru has a powerful nose with honeysuckle, beeswax, fennel, hints of acacia coming through with time. I adore the mercurial nature of this Les Charmes - the manner in which it toys with the olfactory senses. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with great intensity on the finish that is very precise. This punches well above my expectations and is drinking beautifully now. - VM

From magnum. Pure clear pale straw. The nose is discreet but welcoming, starts to grow very nicely on the palate. This wine has remained exceptionally young and has an intensity for the future which is impressive. It has put on more weight since I drank most of mine! Or perhaps it is the magnum effect. - JM

A discreet but not invisible touch of oak frames the ripe orchard fruit aromas, particularly peach and apricot, as well as pretty floral notes. The fresh, intense and notably sweet flavors possess excellent intensity and vibrancy before culminating in a generous and mouth coating finish that displays real verve. I really like the sense of underlying tension and the abundant amount of dry extract confers an almost chewy quality on the gorgeously long finish. In a word, terrific. - BH
