Reviews & Scores
The expressive, fully mature and ripe nose displays various floral and truffle nuances, citrus, stone, oyster shell and ocean breeze scents that are trimmed in just a hint of wood. There is fiine richness to the stony, sappy and sleekly muscular middle weight flavors that display a lovely sense of harmony and vibrancy on the moderately dry and impressively persistent finish. Tasted several times over the last few years and based on this most recent bottle, my sense is that the '11 MdT has reached its peak. i would further observe that while it's presently in no danger of declining, I wouldn't suggest holding it for another decade either. Note that my scores have ranged between 92 and 93 points. - BH

The 2011 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre is all about grace. A gentle hint of spice leads to dried pears, crushed flowers, red berries and licorice. Constantly changing in the glass, the 2011 is a marvel to behold. Suggestions of smoke, graphite and licorice add layers of nuance in a magical wine loaded with class and personality. Best of all, the 2011 is relatively approachable by Raveneau standards, which means reader won't have to wait long at all to experience the magic of one of the great sites in Chablis. - VM

The 2011 Montée de Tonnerre was a bit reduced at the time of my visit, but with a little swirling in the glass, its exceptional quality became quite apparent. This young and stunning wine offers up a superb bouquet of apple, lemon, a touch of sweet grapefruit, crystalline minerality, spring flowers and a gentle topnote of beeswax. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very soil-driven, with a racy personality, excellent mid-palate concentration, excellent focus and balance and simply superb backend cut and energy on the long and youthful finish. Great juice. - JG
