This is aromatically similar to the Charmes but with notes of plum and better overall layering. There is a bit more mid-palate density to the sleek, intense and solidly powerful flavors that possess notably better depth and persistence on the balanced, built-to-age, compact and quite serious finale. Excellent if you have the patience. - BH

The 2021 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has more precision and focus than the Charmes-Chambertin. It is nicely detailed, mineral-rich with exquisite red and black fruit, the former more than the latter. The palate is effervescent and vivacious on the opening, with fine definition, Seville orange marmalade and a liberal sprinkling of black pepper and clove towards the satisfyingly long finish. This is a great success and it has the structure to repay cellaring. - VM

A little more of a purple tint to the crimson colour. Almost a touch of tobacco in the nose, fresh not stale. Behind that, a depth of raspberry fruit, with unusual energy behind, definitely kicks on – now raspberry and strawberry mixed. A clean and persistent finish. - JM
