Sometimes you just never know when wines that you've had long ago will reappear and with frequency! I hadn't tried this since December 1995 yet I had the good fortune to try it thrice in March 2019 in the space of two weeks! Bricked completely through. There is a fair amount of spice to the overlly sous-bois inflected nose that leads to sweet, round, supple and almost delicate medium full flavors that offer good length with just a touch of acidity that cuts the finish ever-so-mildly short. While not a great Bonnes Mares, I very much enjoyed this because even though it has become an aging older soldier, if you appreciate finesse and laciness, this was entirely lovely. I would further note that all of the 2019 bottles showed similarly. (Drink starting 2019) - BH

On an evening which had not thus far smiled on the Groffier wines, this wine served at the end brought some respite. The colour was a little muddied but there was a wealth of perfumed fruit on the nose and palate. Thoroughly satisfying with a very good weight of fruit, just lacking a touch of refinement for top marks. - JM

Returning after two hours the funk dissipates to reveal wonderful red fruit, quince and undergrowth scents, rustic but really quite vigorous. The palate has good depth, more elegant than many vintages in the 1970s with a pretty, sour cherry finish. (NM) - VM
