One of the greatest names, especially for whites, this Chassagne family owns no Chevalier vines but traded some of their Bâtard must for some of Chartron's Chevalier must. Pure gold. Very taut and ambitious. Not yet nearly ready. Not quite the lift and zip I'd like - perhaps this is a vintage thing. At the moment a bit reductive. Very pure and a bit austere. Far from luscious. - JR

Surprisingly, this is much more open, expressive and accessible than the Bienvenues and the sheer scale and wet mineral quality is dramatic and imposing. The focused, detailed, almost razor-sharp flavors possess astonishing levels of sappy extract and this both coats and stains the palate and the intensity is borderline painful. This is reference standard quality. - BH

Classic Chevalier-Montrachet aromas of lemon and stones, along with some smoky oak. Silky and densely packed, but also quite fine, thanks to harmonious acids and strong minerality. This offers superb sugar/acid balance, and a very long, dusty, palate-coating finish. - VM
