"The 1985 A. Rousseau Chambertin was full bodied and then some. This was a deep ocean' wine as Big Boy would have said if he ever made it to Brazil. It was black like a deep cave after dark, and full of wet, dark stone mysteriousness. This wine was rich and great, in every which way, not rich and an asshole lol"

Clear and bright, with a sensational perfume right from the first sniff. No overt power, nothing too assertive, just a beautifully made red wine in a state of grace. This seems fully mature yet will not fade any time soon. Rose petals and raspberries, few tannins, perfectly integrated acidity, and really exceptionally long – perhaps the most persistent of all the wines today. Quintessential Rousseau. - JM

In the glass, it shows some degradation in the rim and is lighter in colour. Ethereal on the nose with fabulous delineation, it offers vivid red fruit, Morello and cranberry tinged with damp moss and orange pith. The palate has stunning balance, perfect acidity, not powerful or structured yet beguiling in terms of its elegance and grace. Hints of white pepper and clove towards the finish that has a softened fleshiness that seems to fan out across the senses.
